Job Family

Leads and influences staff and/or lay people. Strategic and tactical decision maker with single operational/ministry influence or ministry services influence. Aligns ministry goals with church vision and direction. Responsible for administration of operational/ministry area or oversight of multifaceted specialty areas. Accountable for ministry or specialty areas results/outcomes. Often serves as intermediary between coordinators, ministry leaders and lay leaders. Provides staff and/or volunteer leadership and accountability for a specific operational or ministry area. Expert in field of responsibility. Evokes followership.

Purpose of Job

Develop and execute the Extend vision with session and pastoral leadership through the application of love, justice, and mercy in an Urban Missions setting. We desire for PCPC to have an enormous impact for the good of our city. The Extend vision calls us to engage our city with the hope of the Gospel in four areas: poverty, leadership, racial reconciliation, and truth. Develop and implement vision, provide team leadership for ministry oversight. Develop and mobilize lay leadership and staff for ministry effectiveness. Care for lay leaders and ministry partners to reinvigorate them for the Lord’s work. Establish accountability that motivates and rewards excellence. Perform all PCPC work for the glory of God.

Individual Job Responsibilities

A. Abide in Christ – Dependent, abiding relationship with Christ personally expressed through the Five Statements of Identity.

B. Vision Cast – Develop, implement, and lead Extend vision for PCPC.

  • Lead and Direct Urban Missions and Mercy Ministries
  • Provide prayerful, spirit-led leadership to Urban Missions and Mercy Ministries
  • Oversee Urban Missions Executive Committee; work together with elders and lay leadership, engaging others in providing ministry strategy and oversight, set ministry objectives and outcomes, and build implementation plans
  • Collaborate with PCPC leadership and staff to engage the church in Urban Mission events and activities
  • Lead Urban Missions team, align vision, build structure, and facilitate work requirements and outcomes

C. Train – Develop and mobilize lay leadership and staff for ministry effectiveness.

  • Equip and mobilize deacons, staff, and lay leaders to thoughtfully engage the greatest needs in our city
  • Recruit, train, lead, and shepherd lay leadership and ministry teams (elders, deacons, lay people) as under-shepherds
  • Develop and mentor staff
  • Engage new members and introduce them to Urban Missions and Mercy Ministries
  • Teach and lead in large and small group settings

D. Soul Care – Care for lay leaders and ministry partners to reinvigorate them for the Lord’s work.

  • Responsible and accountable for the spiritual nurture, growth, and well-being of PCPC members, Deacons, and Urban Missions partners

E. Accountability – Establish accountability that motivates and rewards work excellence.

  • Responsible for understanding the work, hearts, and lives of our Urban Missions partners and PCPC staff
  • Encourage, equip, and evaluate Urban Missions partner ministries
  • Maintain up-to-date policies and remain informed of laws and regulations affecting Urban Missions
  • Align Urban Missions’ outcomes with PCPC’s vision * Oversee quality and quantity of work
  • Manage resources including people, work flow, work plans, initiatives, processes, and timelines for projects * Hire, set goals for direct reports, conduct appraisals, and recommend compensation
  • Create, manage, and achieve budget goals
  • Respect and work within practices of good stewardship and budgetary frameworks

F. Evangelism – Intentionally pursue meaningful relationships with those outside and inside the church; lead others by example, teaching, and exhortation; assist PCPC members in learning to engage the City and the culture.

Education and Experienced Required

Education: College degree required, seminary training a plus, Spanish fluency a plus

Experience: Ten years of experience in an urban or related ministerial context, Pastoral experience a plus
