Job Family

Caretaker of the church buildings, furniture and grounds. Provides facility, office and equipment maintenance.

Purpose of Job

Provide support for events, cleaning, maintenance and various general duties to facilitate ministry effectiveness. Assist staff, church members and PCPC ministries as requested. Perform all PCPC work to the glory of God.

Individual Job Responsibilities

Event Management Software (5%)

  • Check EMS software daily for room set up reports
  • Notify Manager of Events of any problems or needs concerning EMS software
  • Be sure vehicles are ready for any EMS van reservations (clean, gassed up, in parking lot, keys in notebook)

Event Support (50%)

  • Clean scheduled event rooms before and after (dispose of all paper plates, coffee cups and other debris)
  • Complete room set ups in an accurate and timely manner
  • Be available and visible during major events such as concerts, large banquets, special all-church functions
  • Make sure room is acceptable to reservation requestor, and make changes if needed
  • Keep an eye on no-show bookings, events that were not reserved, or use of items that were not reserved
  • Assist caterers if help is needed with food setup
  • Wash dishes for Midweek dinner when it occurs

Interior Cleaning (30%)

  • Ongoing: Maintain spills, accidents, and cleaning issues that may come up at any time
  • Scheduled Weekly: AM: common area floors; PM: offfices including dusting and trash removal
  • Scheduled Seasonal: carpets, etc.
  • As needed: based on housekeeper availability and/or timing of events, help clean and sanitize restrooms (22 total: 12 R church/CE, 6 OLE, 4 OLW), parlor and sitting area outside parlor, CE building kitchen serving line, OLW kitchen area, Info Desk, 200’s door, all coffee areas, elevators)

Safety and Security (5%)

  • Be available to walk staff to their car after hours, if needed.
  • Keep an eye on unlocked doors, strangers in the building, or other issues that could be a safety concern.
  • Inform Director of Facility and Property Management of any Security concerns

Work Orders and Other General Duties (10%)

  • Daily rotate mail bins between buildings, promptly at 11:00 am and 3:00 pm
  • Daily report maintenance needs to Director of Facilities and Property Management (broken doors, stopped-up sinks, dripping faucets, burned-out light bulbs)
  • Daily perform other responsibilities as assigned by Director of Facilities and Property Management (minor repairs, changing light bulbs)
  • As requested, move boxes, bookshelves, etc. in a timely and safe manner

Education and Experienced Required

High school graduate or GED. Two years experience as a custodian/sexton or in the cleaning and maintenance of a large building and grounds.

Prioritizes and Organizes Work: reviews daily and weekly event set up and cleaning schedules; establishes priorities, determines the time needed to complete tasks, and organizes work accordingly; keeps other informed as needed.

Problem Solving / Analysis: effectively confers with supervisor, team members, and/or staff to resolve problems and/or to confirm details noted in EMS reservations; inspects and evaluates the physical condition of facilities to determine the type of work required; to checks and maintains equipment to ensure that it is in working order; when an unexpected problem arises, is able to assess who needs to be notified (if anyone), accurately determines what is needed to solve the problem, and takes corrective action to resolve the problem; understands the difference between critical details and unimportant facts.

Job Complexity

  • Physical demands must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of the position
  • Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds and transport up to 150 pounds with mechanical assistance.

Work Environment

  • Normal office and church environment
  • Shift office hours and days; 20-25 hours: 5 evenings (5:00-9:00 or 6:00-10:00 pm) and every other Sunday (7:30 am-12:30 pm)
